Curtains & Bay Windows

Bay windows are one of the most preferred types of windows people like to have in their homes. Decorating them can pose a problem. Most people like to leave their windows bare, thinking it just adds to the grandeur of their homes. This is an illusion that needs to be shattered at its earliest. No window that big can be left bereft of any embellishment. There are so many ways that you can play around with the window treatments for bay windows.

For starters, focus on the room first. The window is an extension of the room, but the window should reflect the room and not the other way around. So plan out the interior design of your room first and then choose your window décor. Many people are known to invest time in the windows first and then the room. Reverse the order and see just how easy it is to decorate your window.

Curtains are the safest and classiest option to stick to while choosing a window treatment. With curtains not only can you play with the amount of light coming into the room, but you can also award yourself some privacy. There are many different styles of curtains for bay windows which are hung on bay windows including casement windows, double hung windows, and the like. Since bay windows are three-sided windows, while measuring for curtains, start from the middle window since that’s the biggest.

For inspiration, you could look at catalogues or other people’s homes with bay windows, or of course, the internet. If you’re looking to experiment with the window frames, Roman shades are the best way to about it. Roman shades give a classic look. You would be surprised to find out that many home owners prefer Roman shades over curtains for bay windows in their homes. If the windows are closer, you might want to use curtains for bay windows with rings or rod pocket curtains. The rings or rod pocket curtains will need to be placed above the window.

The design of the curtain is also important. If your house is designed on a classic look then the curtains naturally have to project the same look. By and large, homes that have bay windows are designed using modern features. Depending on the design of your home, you will have to go with the design of the curtain. The thumb rule for choosing a curtain for your house is that it must match the colour scheme of the rest of the room. The room and the curtain cannot be treated as separate entities. However, you may complement your house and curtain with a combination of colors; for example, you can go for a light or dark color shade that suits the color of your house. Remember this and you won’t go wrong.
