The 4 Pixar Movies Coming Soon We’re Excited About

New

Ah, Pixar, Pixar, Pixar… When this studio showed up at the horizon so many years ago, who would’ve thought that it would become the animation giant it is today? It definitely had a lot of potential, not going to lie, but the fact that we’re all sitting here, excitedly awaiting the release of another motion picture signed Picture says a lot. Not only were Pixar movies really, really good, but they became a staple for other films succeeding them (Toy Story, anyone?). Now, with more Pixar movies coming soon, we feel like we’re waiting for the Christmas morning all over again.

We do like to complain a lot about how most of the movies today are nothing but adaptations or sequels, but the Pixar movies coming soon have somehow managed to make us hype regardless. Oh, yes, spoilers… three out of the upcoming films are sequels. But, boy, just what kind of sequels are they! So, without further ado, let’s start up the Pixar movies waiting in queue so you can confirm whether you share our excitement for these films. Yes, even if they are sequels.

#1 The Incredibles 2

We’re kicking this list off on a high note, see? The Incredibles might just be the animated picture with the most requests for a sequel ever. Not even Frozen was on par with this achievement, though we assume the fact that this movie split the world in two had something to do with that. But The Incredibles? Who doesn’t love this movie? And with the superhero craze being at its peak right now, what better time to follow-up with that much awaited sequel than right now?

Not many details are known about The Incredibles 2 right now, except for the fact that the events of the movie will mirror the passing of time in real life. In other words, they will take place fifteen years after the occurrences of the first movie. When you really think about, this is a pretty huge deal, isn’t it? We’ll get to see Violet and Dash all grown up, quite possibly trying to live out family lives of their own in a world where they’re long established superheroes. Jack Jack is going to be the full-fledged teenager of this superhero drama (don’t be surprised if he ends up being our main character) and the fates of Mr. and Mrs. Parr are still unknown.

Let’s just hope Pixar doesn’t pull an Up on us and decides to give some tragic end to their adventures rather than having them happily retired in a beach house on the West Coast.

#2 Toy Story 4

When we talked about Pixar movies becoming a staple for all other animations succeeding them, Toy Story was the culprit we were alluding to. It was the first time when we’d get to see a computer-generated animation movie of this caliber. Combined with the fact that it had a pretty freaking fantastic storyline and a charming cast of memorable characters, Toy Story became an undeniable, history-writing hit. For a while, Pixar was bombarded with sequel requests similarly to The Incredibles. And now, voila, all these years later and we’re still getting sequels.

Are you excited to see Toy Story’s fourth installment among the Pixar movies coming soon? We’re a little bit torn on this one. Not because there are any problems with the movie per se, but rather because it’s traditional for sequels to gradually decrease in quality the bigger the number. Let’s not even mention the fact that Toy Story 3 felt like such a natural and emotional conclusion to the story of Woody, Buzz, and the others that it feels almost wrong to lift the lid off this one. But you know what? The producers are excited about it and this excitement is contagious.

It’s been revealed in the meantime that the movie will, more or less, portray the romance between Woody and Bo Beep, who was actually absent in the third movie.

#3 Cars 3

Speaking of sequels nobody asked for… The first Cars movie was as far away from being a critical success as possible, though it definitely did its job when it came to wooing audiences, especially children. But even with all these things considered, if you go into the movie with an open mind, it’s easy to see why it was a box office success. It sold two key points: Pixar’s trademark emotional undertones and talking vehicles. In no time, Cars became Pixar’s merchandising franchise, so don’t be too surprised that they’re still milking this cow.

Out of all Pixar movies coming soon, expectations are the lowest for this one. But perhaps this is the whole gist of it. Rather than trying to cash in more profit, the studio is trying to make amends for the less than flattering Cars 2. And by the sounds of it, we’re almost inclined to believe it. The third installment is teased as a return to the emotional roots that made Cars so loved by audiences.

We will also kiss goodbye all the goofy side characters that stole the spotlight in Cars 2, as Lightning McQueen is back in business.

#4 Coco

Coco is the only of the Pixar movies coming soon that’s a studio original. And looking back at the comparable situations of Inside Out and The Good Dinosaur, this can be either a bad or a really good thing. We’re definitely hoping that it’s the latter. The movie is based on the Mexican celebration “Day of the Dead” and the synopsis teases the story of a 12-year-old named Miguel, who lands an unexpected encounter with his family by triggering a series of “mysterious events.”

The premise itself sounds promising, but if that’s not enough, this a motion picture brought to us by Toy Story 3 director Lee Unkrich. It’s really early to be discussing any further aspects of this movie, but we’re hoping it will be something sharing the eerie atmosphere of Nightmare Before Christmas. After all, the foundation for the story is a celebration with a name as ominous as “Day of the Dead.”

The list for Pixar movies coming soon is unpleasantly short, which is why we have expectations that the studio will deliver on these four titles. Which one of them are you most excited for? Do you think of Cars 3 will (understandable) cynicism? Did you scream “about time!” when The Incredibles 2 was announced?
