The Window Valance Is Just As Important As The Window

A window is vital to both architecture and décor of a house. The window is nothing but an extension of your room. While deciding on how you want the room to look, remember to include the window in the plans as well. Regardless of what you put on your windows- curtains, shades, blinds or drapes- it’s a cardinal sin if it’s not in tandem with room’s look and feel and most importantly colour scheme. Now, one of the aspects of decorating your window is deciding on a valance. A valance is the top of the window curtain and obviously needs to match the interiors of your house.

Valences, though desirable, are a little expensive to purchase and even design for that matter. But if you’re absolutely insistent of having a valence for your window, there are a few tips given below that could help ease the process of selecting and even setting up a valance for your window.

1. Keep it simple:

The best money-saver tactic is to keep your valance simple. The valance usually accompanies a curtain that is fancy beyond all measures. Keeping this is mind; the valance should be simple, without any extravagant designs or patterns. This will balance the effect of the curtain and also keep your elegant light and bright. Remember, the valance is just an extra touch to give your window the complete look. You save your money and have a valance for your window.

2. Shop online:

You don’t have to hire a designer to shop for window valances. Hit the internet and have a look at what’s there. Shopping online has its own set of perks like discounts, sales and reward points. Look for what you need and then look for the best deal you can get for it. You can do all this in the comfort of your own home; all that’s required is a reliable internet connection.

3. Trim your valance:

You can always give your valance a designer touch of your own by trimming the valance. When the valance is plain, then match it with contrasting trimming. Similarly, when the valance is patterned, you can make use of a plain design. Go online for some inspiration and ideas.

4. Don’t only stick to curtains:

Needless to say, you’ll have a budget in mind when it comes to decorating your home. If the curtains and window valences are going a tad over-budget, ditch the curtains and go for alternate window treatments, like, Roman shades. When you feel valance and curtains are expensive, then you might want to make use of Roman shades. Roman shades come in elegant designs and are lot more affordable than curtains. You can just add a valance on the top and have Roman shades following suit. It’s the ideal window treatment on a budget.

5. Make our own valance:

For those of you who know your way around a sewing machine, making your own window valance is not a bad idea. A simple design can definitely be sown on the machine, if you’re up for it. You can look up designs and patterns on the internet, on one of the many do-it-yourself forums. Depending on your skill on the sewing machine can directly vary with the intricacy of the valance design.

Decorating your house is not a simple feat; try and reduce as much unnecessary stress and expense as you can!
