Top 10 Worst Christmas Presents You Could Ever Receive

We all know Christmas is a great opportunity to make a present that would make the recipient happy. However, not everybody is that good at making presents. For this reason, today we are going to have a look at the worst Christmas presents you could receive.

Worst Christmas Presents to Keep Away from

1. Exercise Gear

This may seem like a good idea at first but think about it. The person who receives it may take the hint that they need to lose some weight, case in which the gift becomes an inappropriate one. And if they are already exercising, they might not need the specific exercise gear you’re thinking about. Most likely, they bought it themselves or don’t want to use it. So, unless you know exactly what they want or need, don’t get them random exercise gear.

2. Pets

Giving living pets for Christmas may sound cute, but is that so? A pet is a serious responsibility and a commitment for life (at least their life). It’s never a good idea to gift someone an animal they may not be able to take care of, such as a dog or a cat. An even worse idea is to get them a semi-dangerous pet, such as a lizard, a tarantula, or something similar. This may not be exactly what they want, or they may not be ready at all to commit to taking care of a pet.

3. Christmas Clothes

A nice Christmas sweater may seem like a good option for you, but it may be one of the worst Christmas presents for somebody else. Just imagine the other person’s reaction when you get them a size 10 instead of 6. Unless you know for sure exactly what they want to wear and what size they’re wearing, you shouldn’t risk getting them anything like that. Especially if you give them the clothes in front of other people as well.

4. Plane Tickets

Although an avid traveler might say that this is the best gift ever, it may also become one of the worst Christmas presents ever. If you’re not familiar with their schedule or plans, you may waste the money on plane tickets that nobody gets to enjoy. Yet again, unless you know for sure the period when they want to leave or the destination, don’t risk making such a gift. A good option to this would be to get a voucher from an airline or a travel agency.

5. Cash

Cash is a good option for a gift only when it comes to teenagers or little kids. They may learn how to manage their finances from a young age, so this is a good idea. However, if you need to make a gift to an adult, you may want to reconsider that. Many people would interpret that as a way of saying that you didn’t pay enough time or attention for their present, so you don’t care that much about them. Of course, you wouldn’t want that, so it’s better to rethink it.

6. Wrinkle Cream

Yet another entry on our list of the worst Christmas presents is wrinkle cream. Some women may be especially sensitive to the topic of aging, and making such a gift may only ruin their holidays. Even if you know they would want to get one, you shouldn’t buy it for them. Besides making an impolite gesture, you may not even know what type of skin do they have and what type of cream suits their skin. An alternative to this would be a seasonally-scented lotion if you don’t want to quit this idea.

7. Cleaning Supplies

You may have some favorite cleaning sprays and tools, but are they suitable for your friends or family as well? Just imagine their reactions when they expect a significant gift, but instead, they see a broom, sponges, or cleaning sprays. Indeed, they are useful, and nobody contradicts that. However, they’re not the best idea if you need to make a gift to somebody. People may even think that you are making a passive-aggressive gift and you’re trying to put across a ‘subtle’ message.

8. Skis

Skiing is a great activity during winter, and there are many people who love it. However, gifting skis may not be such a good idea. First, they are incredibly expensive, and when you’re spending that amount of money on a present, you should make sure it’s the right one. Besides offering skis, keep in mind that the person who receives them will also need ski lessons. And yes, these are expensive as well. As such, if you’re not prepared to spend a lot of money, it’s not a good idea to give skis.

9. Air Freshener

There’s one thing to gift people pretty, scented candles that have a magical appeal to them, and another one to give them an air freshener. While the candles are a great idea because of their seasonal charm (and not only), an air freshener might send a subtle hint that their home smells. Obviously, this would be a bad idea altogether, since they might see you as rude when all you wanted was to make a useful gift. However, you can still go for this option if you truly want to send them this message.

10. Hoverboard

The last tech trend that hit the shelves in 2017 was the hoverboards. Although they are fun not only for children and teenagers, there are many adults who enjoy them as well. However, this might be a dangerous gift. The government recalled hundreds of thousands of models because they didn’t respect safety regulations. Moreover, the recipient might end up getting hurt while using it.

To draw a conclusion, these are the 10 worst Christmas presents you can think about. The countdown to the gifts has already started, so make sure you are avoiding the suggestions above. In some cases, we offered you interesting alternatives that can help you save face in front of your friends or family.
