5 Home Cinema Ideas and Reviews

Ever since the invention of the movie theater in 1895, men and women of all ages world-wide have fallen in love with this form of entertainment. Also known as a film, movie or picture house, or simply a cinema, the movie theater concept became available to homes around the 1950s. Nowadays, movie-goers worldwide can enjoy the entire experience of a movie theater in the comfort of their own homes thanks to brands like Epson. Home cinema systems usually contain a projector or a huge TV screen, and surround sound for the audio augmentation. No, we’re not talking about the Sun Valley Cinema in Mountain Home, Arkansas; we’re talking about having the real deal in your house. As the world’s population is becoming ever-more comfortable and attached to their homes, the idea of a home cinema was naturally embraced, especially because simply watching a movie on your computer or television simply wasn’t the same. Even more so, it’s a great alternative for karaoke out in the city center, as you can playback videos with lyrics directly on your wall and everyone can sing along.

We have put together a list of home cinema ideas and reviews, so you can figure out which system or replacement is the best for your needs. You will soon find out that reproducing an authentic movie theater experience is not as impossible as it may seem; check out our list and let us know which home cinema idea or review you liked the best and if you have any other suggestions for our Mashoid readers.

1. Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 8350

Number two on our list is the The Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 8350 is greatly appreciated by users for its affordability and great quality. It’s quite cheap in comparison to many other home cinemas, as it can be bought for as little as $1,049. It comes packed with both a vertical and a horizontal lens shift that allows you to move the image without physically moving the projector. Another advantage is that it has two HDMI connectors and it doesn’t cause any annoying rainbow effect. Unfortunately, the Epson Home Cinema 8350 does not support 3D, like many other DLP projectors currently available on the market. All in all, users are very pleased for the quality they receive for the price they pay, as the PowerLite Home Cinema 8350 is the most inexpensive 1080p HD model that Epson offers.

2. Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 2030

The PowerLite Home Cinema 2030 2D/3D 1080p 3LCD Projector brought to us by Epson is another fantastic option for a home movie theater at an even better price than the 8350. It can be purchased from the official Epson website for as little as $799.99 and has received great reviews from users. The main advantage that the 2030 has over the 8350 is that it provides 3D playback, so you’re basically a step away from an IMAX at your own home. Images can reach up to 300” on any screen or wall and are super rich with 2000 lumens of both color and white brightness. If you want an exceptional alternative for walking out the door and going to the club, have your friends come over and enjoy a movie with the 2030 projector at home.

3. Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 3020

Also designed by Epson, the PowerLite Home Cinema 3020 is a bit more expensive than the other two models presented by the same manufacturer above, but offers a “sophisticated picture”, as presented on CNET. It’s outstanding for 24P and 3D playback at this price, being way most efficient than a television with the same price tag. Moreover, this Epson model comes with 10W speakers in the back of the chassis, which ensures decent audio quality, as well. It isn’t hard to use and has proven to offer great black level and shadow detail for its class. It comes in 2 versions, the simple 3020 (at $1,599), and the 3020e that contains a Wireless HD hub and the possibility to pass audio and video to an AV receiver, and is $300 more expensive. We recommend the simple model, as the upgrade isn’t as “wow” as you might think it would be and rather on the pricey side.

4. Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 5020UBe

Our last Epson choice is the PowerLite Home Cinema 5020UBe. This is probably the best quality projector you can get, but can be a little bit on the expensive side ($2,599 on Amazon). Basically, the only disadvantage it presents is that it does not have an audio output on the projector. Aside from that, it offers glorious 1080p 3D video playback and an awesome WirelessHD transmitter with 5 inputs. As a bonus, buyers get 2 sets of 3D glasses, which is a small, but very cool detail. It is widely appreciated for delivering HQ 2D & 3D images both in the dark and in a low-lit room. Compared to the PowerLite Home Cinema 5010e, it has quite a few improvements, such as frame interpolation. Tech leaders like PC Mag have dubbed it as an “impressive projector for its price” and the model enjoys all-around positive reviews from almost all users.

5. Media Player Classic Home Cinema

If you don’t possess the necessary budget for an all-out home cinema, you can recreate the experience with the help of free software that can pe downloaded from the internet. One of these alternatives is the Media Player Classic Home Cinema, a free utility that allows you to play videos on your own computer if you have a Windows operating system. It is a great solution for those who aren’t exactly the most advanced technology connoisseurs, as the program is easy to install and fast to launch and doesn’t require a bulb or other maintenance aspects of a physical home cinema. Unfortunately, it also has some downsides, such as a not-so-pretty virtual decor (unusual interface) and crashing when big files are attempted to be opened. All in all, if you don’t have the money for a professional home cinema system or you simply don’t want to spend so much for one, the Media Player Classic Home Cinema is an accessible choice.

Aside from the options listed above, you can also check out a few other Epson PowerLite Home Cinemas, like the 705HD, 8100, 720 or 6100 projectors, but also a wide variety of home cinemas by Sony or LG, for example. No matter which brand or model you choose, just know that a home cinema can offer an amazing experience and fun memories together with your friends and family.
