It is the biggest irony of today’s times that healthy food is costlier than the junk, high calorie ones. This is also one of the driving forces behind the rampant obesity around the world. Many people are skeptical about going on a healthy food diet plan because these nutritious foods will cost more. Does that mean you cannot get healthy meals to lose weight, when you are on a tight budget? Not really. There is a way around this situation and there are ample such low budget meal options that can help you lose weight effectively. Given below are some such ideas of healthy meals that you can whip up when you are on a budget and lose weight in the process.

Salads

There is a reason salads are a dieter’s paradise. They are easy to make, are extremely nutritious, they taste good and they do not cost too much either! Salads can be a good contender of healthy meals to lose weight, when you do not wish to spend much. Chop up your choicest vegetables and add cooked chicken or tuna to it. Mix it well, and add salt and pepper to taste. You may mix a little bit of mustard as a coating or even low fat mayonnaise. Do not add a hefty dressing to the salad – that will just defeat the purpose. Now enjoy your bowl of salad as lunch, and bid the high calorie meals goodbye.

Stir fried vegetables and brown rice

When talking about healthy meals to lose weight, you cannot possibly pass on vegetables. For budget dieting, fresh vegetables are your best option. Choose a lot of greens and other vegetables like carrots, capsicums etc. chop them up and stir fry them in a little vegetable oil. Alternatively, you can even add a lean pieve of chicken here and stir fry it. This is a very filling and fiber rich meal, when taken with brown rice. It will fill your appetite, and you would have avoided calories, without spending an astronomical amount.

Smoothie on the go

Sometimes you need options for healthy meals to lose weight, which take up the minimum time and fill your appetite as much as possible. And they need to be budget friendly too. In such circumstances, smoothies are your best option. When you are in a hurry and cannot sit for a meal, simply whip up a healthy smoothie and your stomach will be filled enough to last you for hours. For making the smoothie, pick ingredients that are both appetizing and filling. Choose fruits like bananas and strawberries or raspberries, kiwi etc., which will give the smoothie a good taste. Add ample low fat yogurt and skimmed milk. The natural sweetness of the fruit should be good enough. If not, you may add a little bit of artificial sweetener. That is it! Now just blend it together into a smoothie and have it on the go. It will satisfy your appetite and keep the calories in check without burning a hole in your pocket.
