5 Tips To Getting Through A Lack Of Motivation

5 Tips To Getting Through A Lack Of Motivation

We’ve all been through a period in our lives where we just couldn’t get motivated to do something.

Maybe you really wanted to take off that baby weight, but you just couldn’t make yourself do it. Or, maybe you were trying to convince yourself to start going to the gym, eating healthier, or finally earning that degree you never got.

No matter what the case may be, you’ve probably struggled to get motivated a time or two in your life.

If this applies to you, then don’t worry. You can get over your lack of motivation and get on track to success- no matter what your goals- just by following some simple tips.

Tip #1: Think About the Positives of Accomplishing Your Goal

One of the main reasons that people often can’t find motivation is because they are thinking in negative terms. They are thinking things like, “If I don’t lost this weight, I’ll never feel good in a bathing suit.” Really, though, what they should be thinking is, “I’ll feel great when I lose this weight, and I’ll look great too.”

It may seem like a small change, but thinking about the positive instead of the negative makes it so much easier to get started and to muster motivation.

Whatever your goal is, sit down and make a list of all of the positive things that will happen as a result of achieving it. When you’re done, don’t be surprised if you can’t wait to get started.

Tip #2: Work on One Thing at a Time

Another common reason that people can’t get motivated is because they’re trying to do too much at once.

If you’ve got seven goals that you’re planning on working toward, it’s only normal that you’d feel overwhelmed. And, feeling overwhelmed can lead to major procrastination, which translates to a lack of motivation.

To beat the lack of motivation blues and end the procrastination cycle, focus your energies on only one thing at a time. You’d be surprised at how much easier this makes it to get started with working toward your goals. And, once you reach one goal, there is still time for all the rest to follow.

Tip #3: Find Someone to Hold You Accountable

Support is one of the most important things in life, and that is certainly true when it comes to reaching your goals.

By finding someone who is willing to hold you accountable, be there for you, and even push you to reach your goals and to get started on them too, you greatly increase the chances that you’ll actually do what you say.

Promises to yourself are easy to break, but breaking promises we make to others isn’t quite so easy, which is the beauty of this tip.

Tip #4: Get Inspired in a Way that Works for You

Another easy way to get motivated is to find something that inspires you and then to use it for all it’s worth.

If your goal is to declutter your home, for example, you might get motivated by looking at photos of homes you find beautiful or stylish. Or, you might feel more motivated by reading home decorating blogs.

Whatever the case may be, find something that inspires you. It could be a song, a book, a movie, just about anything. As long as it gets you motivated, there’s nothing wrong with it.

Tip #5 Trade in a Bad Habit for a Good One

Do you have a bad habit in your life? Maybe you smoke cigarettes or eat too much junk food. Whatever the case may be, a great way to get motivated is to replace a bad habit with things that help you reach your goals.

Let’s say your goal is to become a published writer, for example, but you’re also a smoker. Well, every time you’re tempted to go out for a cigarette, you could sit down and write instead. In this way, you’d banish a bad habit and find more time for something you actually want to do at the same time. What could be better for that?

If you’re like most people, you’ll find lots of ways to make this helpful switch in your life.

As you can see, getting motivated isn’t impossible…even if it sometimes feels like it. You simply have to follow a few simple tips, work hard, and allow the rest to follow.
